Contraception and Sexual Health

A confidential and non-judgmental service is offered to any patient in need of contraception or sexual health advice, whatever their age or circumstances. Please discuss your needs with the doctor, or make an appointment with the nurse practitioner.
 
We offer the contraceptive implant (Implanon) fittings. This method requires a special appointment: please discuss with the doctor or nurse.
 
Emergency contraception is provided. Please make an appointment, or ring and ask to speak to the nurse and she will phone you back ( You do not need to explain to a receptionist). Please make contact as soon as possible. The emergency contraceptive pill works up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. You can also buy it from a chemist if the surgery is closed.
 
Referrals for male sterilisation (vasectomy) are made to Central Health Clinic by the doctor or nurse practitioner.
Female sterilisation is arranged via Jessops Hospital - please make an appointment to discuss with the doctor or nurse practitioner.
 
We provide simple STD screening for chlamydia, BV, trichomonas and other common infections - please see the nurse. However if you need a full STD check up, you can make an appointment at the GU (genito-urinary) clinic at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. You do not need a doctors referral.
